RyujiIt's me.

RyujiLet's meet in Erika's room. A new case came in.

ErikaWhat? You need something?

Player(I don't think it'd go over well if I said I just came by for no reason. Better come up with something.)

PlayerSo who taught you to hack? Do you know a Matayoshi? Does he know Ryuji? What does "Hudie" mean?

ErikaRyuji did.

ErikaHe and Chitose have been hacking since grade school. I wanted to try, so I begged him until he taught me.

ErikaAnd eventually things...changed. I ended up being able to learn it on my own, kind of.

ErikaCan we not talk about that any more?

ErikaOh, Mr. Matayoshi came? He's a detective.

ErikaRyuji and Chitose owe him big time. He's helped them out a lot in the past.

ErikaI don't know the details. Ryuji and Chitose used to really be royal pains, and he probably looked after them somehow.

ErikaHe's a good man. I like him. Sometimes he brings me sweet things.

ErikaWell, that came out of nowhere.

ErikaNot that it's a problem.

ErikaI guess you're part of the team now, so you should at least know what the name means.

ErikaIt's Chinese for "butterfly."

ErikaThere's this story I like called "The Butterfly Dream." Do you know it?

ErikaThere's this man who falls asleep one night and dreams he's a butterfly, flitting through the sky.

ErikaThen when he wakes up, he wonders:

ErikaWas that a dream I had as a man? Or am I really a butterfly, and am I now just dreaming of being a man?

ErikaWe treat cyberspace as this extension of reality in our day-to-day life. We don't even know which is the "real" reality anymore.

ErikaSome people are just ordinary people in the real world, but in cyberspace, they're special. Or sometimes it's the reverse. Just look at hackers.

ErikaWhich side do you think is more real for them?

ErikaThis world? EDEN? Both, maybe? ...This place is a kind of frontier for people like that, who dwell in the middle.

ErikaAnd we, so to speak, are butterflies. Flitting back and forth between the two worlds.

ErikaSo that's what gave me the name.
